The premise

The Riviera, August 1928. Madame Verey gathered her guests at the villa to watch a lunar eclipse. For the occasion she brought out the Polar Star — a diamond her family had not shown in public for forty years.

For exactly four minutes the drawing room went dark. When the lamps came back on, the stone was still there — but Viktor, Madame's secretary, took one look and said: "That isn't it." Glass.

Nobody left the drawing room during those four minutes. The police arrive in the morning — you have three rounds to find the thief yourselves.

Who is at the table

Everyone introduces themselves with one public line before a word is said. Nothing below is a clue — this is only what the whole table already knows.

  • Viktor

Madame's secretary: seven years running her affairs, and he knows this house better than she does.

  • Professor Olgerd

An astronomer invited as a scientific celebrity: an eclipse comes once in nine years, and he is the one who will explain it.

  • Lydia Romm

An opera diva back on stage after three years of silence. The whole coast is guessing why, and nobody dares ask.

  • Baron von Kemnitz

A collector of thirty years' standing, who talks about stones so well that even people who do not care listen.

  • Signor Zanni

A conjuror engaged for the evening: cards, silk squares, and things that were certainly not in his hand a second ago.

  • Klara

A guest from Paris, a friend of a friend. Here for a day, on first-name terms with everyone and close to nobody.

Where you are

The villa's drawing room: the cushion with the stone on a small table by the window, armchairs in a half-circle, the terrace door wide open. The sea beyond. All six were in this room the whole time.

Everyone at the table gets a character, three cards and one rule: you may hide things, you may not invent them. Between the acts a dossier appears on every phone with a new fact about somebody in the room — and it never clears anyone.
